Dr. Caine, the murdering dentist from the original movie, has escaped from the mental hospital where he has been since being caught. ... No big surprises in the end, but a suitable ending leaving the door open for another sequel.

As we have done the last few years here at Trisk, it is time to catch back up with the adventures of Herbert West, in the third and final movie in the series, Beyond Re-Animator! Not that you would really notice in a prison. It is revealed that Phillips is the younger brother of the teenage girl who was killed by West's zombie (he is shown watching West being taken away by the cops) and came to the prison for the explicit purpose of working with him. However, his lack of supplies does not prevent him from uncovering a key element in his re-animation process.

Not to mention, the reanimated Laura.And much like in the first movie when West was discovered, he once again grabs the nearest item he can find, and clobbers the warden over the head with a microscope.He's not quite dead though, which is good, since now West can harvest the warden's NPE and use that to normalise Laura, instead of the rat's.And much like the rats, the nanoplasmic transfer seems to work, and Laura is okay! OR IS SHE?The riot reaches the infirmary, since Cabrera is not happy about Ratty, and sees Laura. He then watches as West is taken away by the police, but he finds a syringe of Mountain Dew left behind, and that leads him down the path to keep track of this guy....As an aside, did milk cartons even HAVE the now-ubiquitous plastic screw caps in 1990?Things start off once we're in the present of 2003 in true Re-Animator fashion, with West capturing a rat and murdering it FOR SCIENCE! I appreciate that we're not keeping any secrets.So they try and use the 13 year old reagent Howie has kept all these years, but oh well, it's been too long, and Moses doesn't rise like a phoenix. when he comes across Phillips weeping over Laura's decapitated body. Curious kids unearth the barrels that previously helped revive the dead, which proves the second time's an undead charm. Eventually the warden of the prison uncovers West's experiments and moves to put an end to them, but he is killed by West, and subsequently re-animated. Crushed by Laura's death, Dr. Phillips succumbs to Dr. West's wishes and his experiments are allowed to literally take on new life. Ending with a great finale, Blood Vessel will draw most horror enthusiasts into a decent vampire tale. An international co-production of Spain and the United States, With what scant supplies he has on hand in the prison medical center, Dr. West has been capable of performing only extremely basic experiments on rats.

West & Phillips revive Laura with the NPE, although it is quickly seen that the dangerous side effects of West's past work are still present with the NPE. Especially once Cabrera realises his cell is open, he releases the rest of the prisoners, and there's a riot going on.The warden wanders to the infirmary to see how things are going, and finds their illegal resurrection lab. His position is such that his only choice is to cut her head off, and he loses it because of that.West steals his ID badge, and uses it to sneak off into the night, and the sequels that never came.Oh, and the movie ends, with Ratty and the severed penis having a fight during the credits.
Due to Phillips' interest with Dr. West's research, West is able to attain the supplies and tools needed to bring his experiments to the next level.
