Maybe if you lived long enough you remember those news reports of how bad things were in S.America. I know Cartagena is safer than other regions of Colombia but would like to hear from those who live there or have traveled there. This should be a concern no matter where you travel in the world, but if heading to Colombia, it can be of particular concern and for good reason. Well that was my scary thing.

I was getting ready to get med-evil on their behinds.Here is how it is played out, a barker ( a person usually a young man wanting to entice you into their store or restaurant) will approach you very closely, they WILL INVADE YOUR SPACE quickly, then with menus of a restaurant (usually restaurant menus) toting how good the food is and blah blah blah.........what they do is to hold these fanned out menus right up to your chest and with their other hand (which is hidden under the menus) they will try to pickpocket you, it happens very quick.To answer the OP question "Is Cartagena safe to visit?" > i pay attention to my surroundings when im at home, outside, driving, at work and so forth.but to answer your question, "safe" is a relative word, in my opinion.I look at it this way too.
If you get put off by street vendors, then get used to it, or dont go to those places..again, without knowing any of your specific fears, all im doing is guessing.A quick story.
