Coronation Street star Philip Middlemiss is ‘wanted for police questioning’ in Ghana, amid an alleged bribery scandal.The 56-year-old – who played Des Barnes on the ITV serial drama – has been ‘named by investigators’ in Africa, alongside three others.Officials are hoping to speak to four people in relation to the sale of three military planes to the country, worth around £50million, according to reports.Special prosecutor Martin Amidu claims Middlemiss was a project manager for Airbus, which sold three Airbus C-295 planes, when the alleged bribery took place, Middlemiss – who is thought to live in Greater Manchester – is now being sought for questioning with the Office of the Special Prosecutor releasing the passport details of those who have been linked to the sale.They include the actor, as well as two British nationals and a UK / Ghanaian duel citizen.Amidu issued a public notice, stating they ‘are hereby invited to assist the on-going investigation of bribery and corruption’.This investigation also includes allegations of ‘collaborating with Ghanaian public officers to use their public office for private profit or benefit in the purchase of three C-295 aircrafts by the Government of Ghana from Airbus’.Airbus recently agreed to pay a £3billion fine in January after a joint investigation from UK, US and French authorities into the using middlemen to sell planes.Middlemiss moved to Ghana to shoot a film after leaving Corrie, where he starred as the womanising bookie for eight years.However, the project ran out of funding before it was finished.According the publication, he then worked as a ‘travel consultant’, while claiming in an interview that his best friend’s brother was vice president of the country.The soap star’s girlfriend Leanne Davis told the Sun she had no knowledge of any investigation.‘I don’t know anything about that,’ she said.
