Make sure you are using the latest version of Java 8, as well as the latest version of ImageJ. You are right, it did seem like an installation issue. I tried to download the ImageJ-ND Viewer plugin.ms1 file but the system will not open the installation file indicating it needs to be .jar, etc..

There is a bug in Java 8 on MacOS which causes the application to drastically slow down as many windows are opened and closed over time.
