So this pack is is only recommended for folks with a sub 10 pound base weight (all your stuff minus food and water is less than 10 pounds). It also has high ratings on Section Hiker, Switchback Travel, and Green Belly (see Sources ). Another minor issue is that there is not a great place to hold a Larger than on other lightweight packs we considered, we like that the pockets are integrated right into the hipbelt.

It’s esp nice that it will let you continue to drop weight/features you don’t need, as you become more experienced. In fact, it’s more like netting than meshmesg.

HMG packs have been a favorite of Pacific Crest Trail hikers for years. The solid fabric side pockets also are more durable when bushwhacking or walking on narrow, overgrown trail. There was no way I was going to cancel such a trip, so I changed it to April 2021 and I'm so looking forward to it. I really hope that it will happen soon!! On the left side is a 8” wide x 16” tall pocket that would be great for a small tent (we were able to fit a Zpacks Duplex tent without its stuff sack into this pocket). But this, I think is something that can be circumvented with a little bit of strategy. We also think, given the longevity that users have been able to get out of the HMG packs, that it will serve you for many years to come. I love the water bottle pockets – I can reach them with ease even with my 1.5 liter nalgenes.
